Happy New Year, everyone! It's January 2018. How the hell did we get here?!

It's the time when everyone is setting their goals for the year, month, even week if you can't manage longer. Whether it's pledging to get fit, eat better, stick to dry January or even turn vegan for the month, every where I look people are doing something to 'better' themselves. Frankly, January is so depressing that we need something to keep us going and motivated. But equally, we need to remember how bloody fantastic we are already and what we've achieved over the past year. I was recently sent a quote by my bestie that read, 'Remember when you wanted what you currently have' and it really made me think. It's so easy to get complacent and try to rush through life, but when you sit back and look at what you've achieved it's pretty mind blowing. I remember when, as a little girl, I dreamed of living in London and could only imagine working for a national magazine. Now, I do. A few years ago I'd look at Instagram and feel miserable that I wasn't doing all these exciting things that everyone else seemed to be, and now I think I am that person. I made those things happen - nobody else, but me.

In what could be considered a self involved task, I've written a list of things I'm proud to have achieved over the past year...
  1. Technically I started my job in late 2016, but last year I felt like I really got to grips with it. The best thing about it is that I absolutely love it. Nothing's perfect, but I go to work day to day and I have a smile on my face. I look forward to it. I've met the most incredible friends through it and I work surrounded by people that inspire me. It doesn't get better than that.
  2. I've worked my ass off to save more money than I ever thought possible. Relax, I'm really not loaded...but through dedication and hard work, I managed to put aside enough to take me on some travels in the future. If you knew me (and my shopping habits) a few years ago, you'd wonder how the hell it's possible!
  3. I made some incredible friends. I thought I had met all the amazing people one person could in a lifetime, but boy, was I wrong! I feel so lucky to have these people in my life now, and I hope to strengthen all my friendships in 2018. The people around you are everything!
  4. I became truly self-sufficient. I watch a lot of people fall into relationships without batting an eyelid, and to be honest, it's not for me. I find it difficult to fall for anyone and I'm proud of that. I'd much rather be happy with who I am than depend on someone else to do it for me. And I really mean that.
  5. I travelled alone. It might seem silly to some people, but travelling on my own to Bali this year was one of the most incredible trips of my lifetime. I've never felt so happy, healthy, inspired, motivated, curious and free in my entire life.
I could go on and on, but I reckon my list is pretty self explanatory. I'm a really lucky person and I need to sit back and realise that more often. So here's to celebrating ourselves in the present and not judging ourselves too harshly. If you don't have a dry January, have a fun one!
