We literally have no choice but to shop online right now. While some fast-fashion clothing brands have closed operations during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown (I'm looking at you, River Island), it seems there's more choice than ever on on second-hand shopping sites as everyone stuck inside uploads half their wardrobes to Depop and eBay.

This is great for me, as I've been living out of a backpack for two months now. All of my clothes are in storage and I've got no idea when I'll get them back, so unfortunately I'm having to spend what little money I have on warmer clothes...Oh, who am I kidding? I'm actually totally chuffed about it!

If you're in need of a lockdown pick-me-up, you can shop sustainably by using these sites. My app of choice at the moment is Depop. There's more vintage than you can shake a stick at, and it's handpicked by sellers with real style. I've started selling some gorgeous hand-made rings that you may have seen on my Instagram.

Here are my top tips for bagging a bargain on Depop...

Jumper, Sample Sale; skirt, Depop; boots, Dr Martens.

Thinking about a fast-fashion purchase? Check Depop first

Every time I find myself lusting after a dress from Topshop, the first thing I do is check the app. Often you'll find someone has left it too late to return an item to store, or have perhaps worn it once or twice before deciding to sell it. Spot it quickly and it's your lucky day! Just pop it in the wash when you receive it and it's as good as new.

The beauty of second-hand clothing apps is that sellers are willing to bargain with you. Make offers, ask if they're willing to swap, or check if the seller is willing to give you bundle deals. Depop is like a market, so treat it like one and you'll get more for your money.

Follow sellers

Sellers often run promotions on their items and will share posts letting you know about it. Following your favourites will ensure you're getting the best chance at bagging a bargain. And make sure you keep an eye on the app!

Be Kind

If you want to bag a bargain on Depop, don't be rude. Make friends with other sellers and you'll reap the rewards. Nobody wants a demanding message landing in their inbox, and it's not good karma either! You're much more likely to get a bargain if you're super duper lovely.

Buy on evenings and weekends

Drop sellers a message between 5-9pm and on weekends. The app is quiet during this period, which means you're more likely to respond quickly. The middle of the month is also a great time to get a good deal, as it's after the pay-day rush and sellers still need to make a buck. They'll be more likely to offer you a good deal when they're broke.
